Estee Lauder Double Wear: My Two Cents

by - 12:00:00

Hello lovelies, hope you are all well and wrapping up! It's super cold outside!

I'm writing this post on an otherwise dull day, but I thought I'd use the time to weigh in on the Double Wear debate.

From my previous posts, you'll probably have gathered that I was yet to find my 'holy grail' foundation and was getting a tad fed up of the high streets offerings; so with that in mind I hit up the Estee Lauder counter after my birthday to try and sort the problem once and for all.

Double Wear is quite the cult product so I thought this would be a good product to start my hunt with. I've read numerous reviews and watched countless videos of people professing their love for this foundation so I figured it must be worth the hype. And it so is.

The Estee Lauder Experience

I'm a bag of nerves when I go shopping in beauty halls; I find the experience notoriously uncomfortable and try to avoid it where I possibly can. I don't know why but I always feel like I am being judged by the assistants and it just makes my anxiety levels go through the roof. Anyone else feel like this?

Well, I plucked up the courage to ask for assistance and for once I am so glad I did. The girl on the counter was so sweet and really took the time to match me perfectly and ensure the formula would provide all the benefits I required. It's the first time I've ever been comfortable in that kind of situation and she did a really good job of putting me at ease. By the time I left the store, I felt like I had made a new friend and an amazing foundation to boot.

The Packaging

Standard luxury from Estee Lauder. Double wear comes in the royal blue and gold box which still has pride of place on my shelf.

As for the actual foundation itself, it comes in a lovely frosted glass bottle with gold screw top and detailing, However, my big bug bear with this foundation is the lack of a pump. I know you can use the MAC one's but I wanted to see how I got on with it the first few uses. However when paying £27.50 for foundation I think it should automatically come with one. No idea why it doesn't. So lack of pump aside, I have no complaints about the packaging. It certainly looks and feels luxury,

The Shade

I was matched with the shade 1C1 which is Cool Bone, which I do believe is one of the palest shades in the Double Wear range. I'm not going to lie, it looks suspiciously dark in the bottle but on it's my skin but MUCH better.

The matching process was pretty straight forward; she simply removed a small area of my make-up and left the skin to calm (I had slight redness after my make up had been removed) before using a Q-tip to apply and blend some of the product onto my skin. I'd heard stories of people just having one shade tried on them so I made sure she tried a range so I left with the best possible match for my skin tone and she was really accommodating.

Overall I'm really happy with my shade match. It matches my skin tone perfectly and even better is the fact that once applied it does not oxidise on my skin... Wahoo!

The Formula

The thing that first struck me is the smell; it's awful. It has a really chemically, borderline paint stripper-ish scent which isn't pleasant, but I assume it's there for a reason so I can live with it as it does disappear pretty sharpish after application.

Scent aside it's wonderful. It glides onto skin and it's thick enough that you get great coverage, but not so thick that it goes patchy and mask like. This really surprised me because Double Wear is essentially a heavy duty foundation so I expected it to feel a bit more noticeable on the skin. Hand on heart it's the opposite; once I've applied it I can't feel it on my skin and even to the touch it feels like I've got nothing on. It's my skin saviour at the moment.

So there we go.. I'd love to know what you all thing of this much talked about foundation. If you've tried it how did you find it? If you haven't would you like to and why?

I'm sorry I didn't include swatches but I will be posting some on Friday as I'm going to do a date night look featuring this foundation.
