Empties: Yankee Candle Edition

by - 16:18:00

Good afternoon you lovely lot, hope you're all well and enjoying the sunny-ish weather.

Today I'm going slightly off topic, but if you love candles then keep reading.

Before Christmas my love of candles became an obsession. I was introduced to the world of Yankee Candles and I've never look back since.

For those of you that aren't familiar with them, they can be quite expensive. With that and my student budget in mind I made my first foray with an order of fruit tarts and a basic tart burner off Amazon. The items I purchased you can find using the following links - fruit tarts  and tart burner

Since receiving them, I've gone through 9 of the tarts which may sound like a lot but they don't really last too long. They are really fragrant and have a great scent throw, but they do only last 9 hours and the strength does decrease after the first few hours have passed.

Regardless, I've found them as useful way of trying different scent and picking my favourites and you can get them for around 90p so they aren't too bad price wise.

I just thought I'd share with you the one's I've used up and whether I liked them or not.

Top Row - Cherries on Snow; Sicilian Lemon; Cranberry Orange
Middle Row - Cranberry Zest; Spice Cake; Bahama Breeze
Bottom Row - Christmas Cupcake; Cinnamon Stick; Vanilla Frosting

Cherries on Snow -
I really enjoyed this one. It smelt kind of like cherryade and I hope they bring it back next fall.

Sicilian Lemon - This scent is one of my favourites. It smells like homemade lemonade and isn't as overpowering as I thought it would be. I have since purchased the medium jar of this scent.

Cranberry Orange & Cranberry Zest - I'm going to cover these together because there was very little difference scent wise. They smell identical but I found the scent too overpowering so I wouldn't look for either scent again.

Spice Cake - This is hands down the most awful scent I have ever smelt. It's the most overpowering of them all and everything in my room smelt of it for weeks. It even managed to scent my hair, much to the dismay of my boyfriend. Avoid this one like the plague unless you like really spicy scents.

Bahama Breeze - This is another one of my favourites. It smells really fruity and fresh and I've but a large jar of this scent on my wish list. I'd highly recommend this to anyone who's a fan of fruity scents.

Christmas Cupcake - This  one is really great for the festive period but it's not something I'd like to burn everyday. It's nice but it's a little to sweet for me. If you are a fan of vanilla though then this one will be right up your street.

Cinnamon Stick - As you may have gathered, spicy scents aren't something I enjoy. This one I also did not enjoy. It was very much fitting for the festive season but the scent just didn't appeal to me at all.

Vanilla Frosting - Again this one was a little too sweet for my liking. It is a pleasant scent and reminds me of the kitchen smell when you're baking but after a while it just became too much for me.

So there you go lovelies, my take on my Yankee tarts. I'd love to hear what your favourite scents are. Also if you know of any cheaper brands which smells just as good get commenting down below!

    1. Oh wow! I'm so jealous of yourr collection!! What scents do you currently have and where do you purchase them? I'm finding it really hard to find some of them in shops!

I've always wanted country lemonade but nowhere seems to have it :-(.

    2. there's a shop near where I live that stocks quite a few and there are little ranges in Clintons and debenhams but generally I get them online, I mainly use www.yankeedoodle.co.uk, they stock quite a lot :)

Im planning on doing a post about them soon so keep an eye out for that, may be easier than me listing all the scents I have

I'm just hoping someone I know goes to Blackpool soon because there's a Yankee Outlet there!

    4. They often have good sales on there though :) I haven't actually purchased a new one in a while, I have quite a few to get through first haha,

I'm really not sure what kinda post to do on them though, I don't want to just do a long post of me rambling about all the scents I have

    5. I'm going to have to keep an eye on it aren't I! You're not the first to say they have great sales! I got my medium jars for £8 in Clintons so I'm always after a bargain!

You could do something similar to a monthly favourites maybe? Like a candle favourites or perhaps a collection post?

  3. Ah I love scented candles! My favourite recently has been 'elegant autumn', but the problem with nice ones is they just don't last! I'll have to try Cherries on show, sounds delicious!

    1. I know what you mean! It's my mission to find a cheaper alternative to Yankee... Not having much luck so far though!

It smells so yummy and because it was a Christmas scent you'll probably be able to pick it up for half price now!
