2013 Unfavourites

With the good, comes the bad. Here are the products that didn't cut the mustard in 2013.

First up is the Maybelline Baby Lips lipbalms. I'll admit that I bought one in every colour when they were made available on the Boots website. Big mistake. They don't moisturise at all (if anything they dry my lips out) and what little tint they do impart is so minimal it's not worth applying. I regret jumping in feet first as now I'm stuck with lip balm's that I won't waste but will hate using. Even my mum wasn't a fan and that's saying something because she's notoriously unfussy.

Next up is Sleeks Au Naturel palette. These palettes are highly spoken of but I do not get the hype. The quality is poor and I don't love the shades either.Needless to say for eyeshadow, Urban Decay get my seal of approval.

This is a product I'm surprised I disliked. It smells divine and is packaged beautifully, sadly it's just not scrubby enough for me. If you have sensitive skin then I would recommend this to you all day long but I need something a bit grittier. It's a shame as I really wanted to love this. My pick is Soap and Glory's Flake Away which is grittier and smells wonderful.

Another surprise. I'd read so much online about how great this foundation is and how it was many peoples holy grail but it just didn't work for me. I struggled to get a shade to match and the coverage really isn't there to be honest. It was light to medium at best even though many hailed it as the best full coverage they'd ever used. Maybe I got a bad batch, I don't know but I was gutted that this didn't work for me.

This was always going to be a hit or a miss as I'm aware that being SLS free presents problems when it comes to foaming. I'd read reviews prior to purchasing that suggested that quite to the contrary you could get a nice lather with this but alas it didn't materialise. As a result of this my skin never felt clean after using it. Even with 2-3 pumps and the mildest lather I still felt grubby so had to use another cleanser just to make sure I was squeaky clean. This won't go to waste though as I plan to see how it performs as a brush cleaner. Every cloud right?

Lasting perfection is the choice of many. Not for me sadly. I've tried to love it but I can't. The shade range is too limited and it just doesn't perform. It looks nice and thick on initial application but as soon as I blend it out my blemishes are stiill visible and have a purple appearance. Not a good look. I'm still on the hunt for a good blemish concealer so leave your recommendations below.

As for the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind I had really high hopes for this. The formula is excellent but the packaging and shade range let it down. I have the shade light and it's way too dark and too yellow to work on my skintone. I'm also not a fan of the sponge applicator, they say it is hygienic but mine struggles to dispense product and appears almost clogged. Yuck.

I hate being a negative nelly but sometimes products suck and you just have to put it out there. Are there any products you didn't love during 2013? Drop me comments and links to let me know.
