La Roche Posay Anthelios SPF 50+ Comfort Cream
I posted my SPF picks earlier in the week, today I wanted to do something a bit more in depth on one of the products featured. It's the La Roche Posay Anthelios Comfort Cream SPF50 (£15.50) and for the price I don't think there's anything better.
As I mentioned in my earlier post, I purchased this solely with my vacation in mind. I've continued using it on my return and the love affair is fast becoming an exclusive relationship. It's replaced all my other day creams and my face seems to be thanking me for it.
So what makes this so special? Well, where do I start. I guess the thing people most hate about SPF's is the white cast issue. No one wants awkward white patches or chalkiness, and luckily you don't get that at all with this. The cream itself has a cream/yellow tint to it and I think this is what stops any of that from happening. On the flipside, this tint doesn't translate onto the skin at all. It just melts in and you forget you applied a heavy duty SPF.
Next thing is that SPF's have a reputation for being heavy and greasy. In a world of facial sorbets and delicate gels, anything 'heavy' sounds like a nightmare in a tube. We expect hideous breakouts and oil slicks and dutily avoid such products. While this is definitely heavier than anything I'd typically use on my face, I've had no troubles whatsoever. Even with frequent reapplications my skin has managed, and it's appearance has even improved. Since getting back, my skin has been going through a bit of a dry patch. My normally oily t-zone is flaking and it's all been a bit alien to me. I tried using my regular face creams and oils, but nothing tamed it quite like the La Roche Posay cream. After a week or so using it as my day cream, the flakes are on their way out and I couldn't be more thankful. With my dry patches on the out, I've finally been enjoying applying make-up again, which brings me to my last point.
Make-up will apply beautifully over this cream. If I buff my foundation in straight after moisturising, I get the most natural yet flawless coverage. It's almost miraculous I swear. My skin still looks like skin, just more perfect. Most importantly, I don't get any kind of make-up meltdown. Sometimes if I use a heavier cream before foundation, it slowly breaks it down over time and I get patchy. Nothing with this, it's fantastic.
If this is something you're looking to purchase for a holiday you'll also be pleased to know that it's water resistant. And quite so if I do say so. I did lots of water activities which made reapplication pretty much impossible, and I didn't burn once. To me that makes this a holiday must have. Most other products and you probably would have had a red face. Who wants that in their treasured holiday photos? Not me!
As you can tell I'm firmly on the Anthelios bandwagon and I honestly don't think there's a better SPF out there. Honestly. I say honestly because I've been a bit narked with La Roche Posay as a brand recently. Their products are truly great and they're affordable. Genuine testimonies can tell you that. Recently however, I've seen multiple 'celebrities' being paid to promote Anthelios products on Instagram. I don't think it's very on brand for them to have 'celebrities' pouting at a bottle of suncream (which they probably don't even use). It definitely doesn't appeal to me as a consumer.
But enough of the rant, I love this SPF (just sack off the paid posts please) and you might too. If you don't fancy the idea of a heavy cream, their range has something for everyone. Get to Boots and give them a whirl. I promise you won't regret it!
