Cheesy Broccoli Pasta Bake

by - 08:40:00

Because who doesn't love pasta bake? This is by no means a healthy dish, it's definitely comfort food, but sometimes comfort is what you need. If this sounds up your alley, let's get cooking.

Ingredients

40g Plain Flour
40g Butter
3/4 Pint of Milk
Grated cheddar (to taste, but more = more flavour)
Salt/Pepper to season
1 handful of pasta per person
Broccoli (as much as you'd like)
Breadcrumbs
Pesto to serve (optional)

Method

First thing to do is add your pasta and broccoli to a pan of boiling water. The two have roughly the same cooking time so in roughly 10 minutes take it off the heat and drain.

While that's cooking, make your roux. I could attempt to explain this, but the article I used does it so much better. Find that here

Once you've made the white sauce, season and add in the majority of your grated cheese. Your cheesy sauce is now complete.

Pasta and broccoli drained and done, pour into an ovenproof dish. Pour your cheese sauce on top and mix thoroughly.

Top the mixture off with your breadcrumbs and the remaining cheese, and whack it into the oven. I baked mine on gas mark 6 for 20 minutes, ovens can vary so adjust accordingly.

After 20 minutes or so, dinner is served. I like to add a dollop of my favourite pesto for another flavour, but this is completely optional. This is a really basic recipe, so add your favourite flavours and see what you can create. I'd love to see your bake ideas so feel free to share down below!
