Clinique Mild Clarifying Lotion

The Clinique 3-step system has something of a bad reputation. I tried it back in the day and it did nothing for my skin at all. In fact, it made it worse. After 6-ish months of using the 'Mild' routine, my skin was dry and dull. Given that bad experience, I've duly avoided the products that form part of that system ever since.

For me, the product I hated the most was the Clarifying Lotion. It was alcohol heavy; smelt like lighter fluid and didn't brighten my skin at all. So you can imagine my surprise when Caroline Hirons talked about one of their Clarifying Lotions on her blog.

She sang the praises of the 'Mild' formula and after finishing up my Pixi Glow Tonic, I just had to try it. I've been using it morning and night for roughly a week, and you know what, I just love it.

It's the first brightening toner I've used that I've actually seen visible results with. Aside from being brighter, it's also proved to be an absolute lifesaver for under the skin spots. At the start of the week, I had one of those stubborn, painful, cyst-like spots going on. It's now Saturday and the swelling has subsided and the redness is all gone. Prior to using this product, these blemishes would hang around on my face for weeks. I go away in 5 days time so being blemish free is a top priority right now, I've not got weeks to fix my face!

In terms of the formula, it's alcohol free (yay!) and instead of Glycolic, uses Salicylic Acid to exfoliate instead. If you've got sensitive skin or you've reacted to other acids, definitely give this a try and see what you think. I've really been pleasantly surprised and if the results keep coming, this will become a firm favourite.

The only problem with this product is actually getting your hands on it. It's constantly sold out online, so I actually had to go to a counter to grab a bottle. Another point to note is that it might not be on display, so you might need to ask a member of staff. Other than that, happy shopping!

UPDATE (01/09/2016): So I finished this bottle a few weeks ago now. At the time I was using it, I truly thought it was miraculous and I'm pleased to say it actually wasn't all that. At the moment I'm just using the Nip + Fab pads I posted about and I actually think they're doing a better job and my skin isn't getting irritated either. If this didn't work out for you or you couldn't get hold of one before it was discontinued, give these a try.
