Winter Essentials

Winter is both the best and worst time of the year. On the one hand you get to celebrate Christmas but on the other, it's generally just cold and miserable. The two areas that I struggle with the most are my skin and my diet and I think this year I've found fixes for both.

My skin has a horrible habit of just losing it's mind when the temperature dips. It becomes dry and dull in next to no time and I've never really been able to get a handle on it till now. As my skin isn't usually dry, I've tended to stay away from richer creams and intense hydration routines but it turns out that's what my skin's needed all along. I'm still using pretty much all the same products from my last skincare routine post but the addition of the next two products has been a revelation.

I've talked about the Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré before here but it's been a real saviour. I use it both under make-up and as a night cream and I now doubt I'll use anything else. I won't go on about this one too much but if you're skin's dry it's definitely worth looking into. Something I've haven't spoke about yet however are the Indeed Labs Hydraluron Moisture Boosting Masks

As some of you might remember I managed to snag these as part of the Hydraluron gift box which was super cheap. I stowed them away thinking I would reserve them for when I'm on a flight but curiosity got the better of me. I'll start off by saying that the fit isn't amazing but I don't think you can expect that given the one size fits all nature of these products. After a good jig around and a couple of snips I can make it work and the magic can begin. Once applied, I leave it on for 20-30 minutes (yes I know the box says 15) and follow up with the rest of my routine. The results are the juciest skin imaginable. To say I'm impressed is an understatement but I would like to try something similar that's a bit kinder on the wallet so let me know what you guys recommend.

This next thing isn't all that exciting but it's been coming with me everywhere so I thought it deserved a mention. While my skin gets dry, my lips get even drier and I've never really found something that doesn't dry them out further. This year my lips were awful to the point where I'd bought most of the treatments for chapped lips at Boots. Of all the ones I picked up, it was actually the Palmers Cocoa Butter Formula one that actually did the job. It has their heavenly signature scent; actually works on chapped lips and has SPF15 to boot. For the price I don't think I've tried anything better to be honest.

Right, now skincare's been addressed, let's talk about diet. When it's cold outside there's nothing I want more than comfort food. As most people probably know, comfort food isn't well known for being the healthiest so I wanted a way to have my cake and eat it too. I've followed Joe Wicks on social media for a while now, but only recently picked up his Lean in 15 books. Safe to say I'm now wondering what took me so long. His most recent book (The Sustain Plan) is the one I've been reaching for the most and the recipes seem to be doing the trick. They're tasty, healthy and quick but more importantly I don't feel like I'm missing out on the comfort aspect. The dishes are filling and feel indulgent but there're pretty much guilt free. Who doesn't want that? If I had to recommend a recipe it would be the Southern Style Chicken on page 172: dig in people!
